Reading Truffaut/Hitchcock right now...
Just wanted to re-iterate a point that I had talked about with David Fincher about compressing time in a film, Alfred Hitchcock in an interview with Francois Truffaut said the same thing.
AH: The ability to shorten or lengthen time is a primary requirement in film-making. As you know, there's no relation whatever between real time and filmic time.
FT: Of course, that's one of the fundamentals that one learns with one's first picture....
Again, they are both correct. I highly recommend the book to anyone who's starting out as a filmmaker or just wanting to learn more about film history. People forget that Hitchcock started out in the silent era. He directed 53 films. An amazing career. He also never won an Oscar.
Two film legends hanging out...
